Last season in Fortnite we had Deadpool as the “secret” skin and unlocking him and his various cosmetic accoutrements entailed embarking upon some pretty fun, often hilarious Deadpool challenges.
This season we have Aquaman, another fun superhero though this time from the DC universe rather than Marvel/X-Men. In fact, this evening we’ll have Captain America in the Item Shop and Aquaman in the Battle Pass. Never have Marvel and DC rubbed shoulders so cavalierly.
In any case, Aquaman is—alas—not nearly as fun or interesting as Deadpool. This was true of the movie Aquaman, which is nowhere near as good or as funny (or as raunchy) as Deadpool, and it’s true of the challenges and presentation of Aquaman in Fortnite. Whereas Deadpool had interesting challenges and a (filthy) secret hideout, Aquaman’s challenges are a snoozefest and he just stands there plain as day next to the other Battle Pass skins—no secret whatsoever.
One gets the feeling with the Season 3 Battle Pass and its ho-hum challenges and just lack of pizzaz compared to last season that Epic Games didn’t put quite the effort into things this time around. Maybe that has more to do with lockdowns and strained resources during the pandemic than anything. It’s hard to know.
In any case, here’s the Week 3 Aquaman challenge:
- Catch different types of fish in a single match.
Not exactly a challenge fit for a superhero of Aquaman’s considerable stature. Not particularly clever or unique. Just boring. All you have to do is catch two different kinds of fish and you’re done. Yawn.
For your brave heroics you’ll earn this Seak Shake emoji:
This is just the hang loose sign if I’m not mistaken. Hang loose, party on, catch some gnarly waves bro.
