Viewers who have missed The Killing’s Sofie Gråbøl getting all up in some criminal activity against a chilly backdrop, look no further - new Sky Atlantic show Fortitude has put her back out in the cold.

The 12-part drama sees Gråbøl back on the small screen as the mayor of Fortitude, a small mining community in the Arctic Circle. Fortitude is on the verge of becoming a hotspot for high-end tourism with the arrival of a new hotel. But the development is interrupted by a macabre discovery, which threatens the safety of its inhabitants and unearths the dark secrets previously hidden by the town’s idyllic facade.

In this first-look clip, Gråbøl’s character Hildur Odegard is interrupted by news of a ‘bloodbath’, as she delivers a speech to an assembled room of delegates. With its cinematic ambitions, wide shots of impressive landscapes and strong range of thermal coats, this first clip suggests that Fortitude inhabits a similar space to the acclaimed US series Fargo.

The thriller boasts an unusually strong cast, including Michael Gambon, Christopher Eccleston, Stanley Tucci, Richard Dormer and Jessica Raine, who filmed the series in Iceland and in the UK at the beginning of 2014. It will air on Sky Atlantic in January 2015.
