Forth Valley Royal Hospital preparing for Covid patient surge in coming weeks

Forth Valley Royal Hospital (FVRH) in Larbert is said to be preparing for a surge in coronavirus patients over the coming weeks.

Staff who work at the hospital say many departments - including the Emergency Department - are on the verge of "breaking point".

The latest Scottish Government figures from yesterday show 22 people are currently being treated in FVRH for Covid-19.

The number of those in ICU in the area isn't known, but stats state it's currently below five.

There were also 6,400 new positive cases were confirmed across the whole of Scotland, as well as 17 new deaths.

A NHS Forth Valley spokesperson said: "Our hospitals continue to be very busy and, like many other areas of Scotland, we are experiencing a significant increase in non-covid related illnesses.

"So far, we have managed to maintain the delivery of a wide range of outpatient clinics, diagnostic scans and planned operations however this is being kept under regular review in line with available capacity."
