Forth Valley hits top of Covid case rate charts as community testing continues

Clackmannanshire remains at the top of the Covid case rates chart, with all Forth Valley council areas sitting above the national average.

The Wee County recorded a seven-day rate per 100,000 of 89.3 for the week up to April 11 - more than two and a half times the Scottish rate of 34.9.

The local authority saw a total of 46 positive cases reported for that seven-day period, with Alloa North representing the main hotspot with 12 new cases.

Stirling lies just inside the top ten for highest average case rates in Scotland, with a seven-day rate of 41.4 per 100,000 and 39 new cases.

For local neighbourhoods, Cowie is identified as the region’s main hotspot following seven cases in the week to April 11.

Community testing is back in the village until Sunday as part of a rolling programme for Stirling Council residents without any main virus symptoms.

Those rates - in addition to Falkirk, which comes in seventh in the latest data table - has also led to NHS Forth Valley registering the highest average levels of cases at 52.5 per 100,000 with a total of 161 new cases for the seven-day period.

The latest testing figures comes on the back of new data from the National Records of Scotland which has revealed that March was the first month since October where Covid-19 was not the leading cause of death in Scotland.

The statistics confirm the death rate fell from 259 per 100,000 of population in February to just 69 last month - meaning that Covid-19 came in fifth in terms of leading causes of death.

Cancer, dementia, circulatory and respiratory causes have all now overtaken coronavirus.
