Forth Bridge rail services resume after police respond to 'concern for person' near Dalmeny

An incident between Dalmeny and North Queensferry prevented trains from crossing the Forth Bridge and travelling between Edinburgh and Fife for much of the day.

Transport police said they were called to the bridge, near North Queensferry, following concerns for the welfare of a man.

ScotRail said shortly before 10.30am that they were working closely with the emergency services and further updates would be provided.

They added that all services between the two stations were affected by the incident, and replacement buses were in use from Inverkeithing.

Passengers were also able to use train tickets with Stagecoach East buses around the Fife Circle.

ScotRail told Edinburgh Live that the incident was a police matter, but to keep people moving they would be re-routing services via Stirling where possible.

At the time British Transport Police said in a statement: "Officers were called at 10.01am on 3 September to the Forth Rail Bridge, North Queensferry, following a report concerning the welfare of a man. They remain at the scene and the incident is ongoing."

The bridge remained closed for more than three hours before transport police confirmed shortly before 3pm that the man had been removed from harm's way and will be taken to a place of safety.

All trains are now running on the route once more.
