Forrest Lamp: By the time I was ready to play, it was too late

Every Forrest Lamp story is fascinating. It unveils something that we never had insight into over the course of the season. In the latest episode of Lamp, he admits himself that he wasn’t ready to play at the beginning of the season:

“Obviously, I wanted to play,” Lamp said. “I really wasn’t ready until Week 7 or Week 8, right after that bye week. And by then it’s just too late — that’s what Coach Lynn told me. You have an O-line that’s been playing together since April 16, when OTAs started, and they’ve been together for three or four months, so you’re not going to break that up.”

That’s kind of what we were saying all along. As it was the same thing Anthony Lynn was. You’re not going to break up five guys that have formed a camaraderie with each other. Up front, that’s as important as it gets. This is not me agreeing, either. Personally would have pulled one of the guards in a heartbeat. Play the best players. If Lamp was ready in week 12, I would’ve thrown him out there.

It was tough on Lamp:

“Everybody that’s here has been waiting for this their whole life: Everybody wants to play, or else you wouldn’t be here,” he said. “So missing my rookie year and then not really playing this year, even though I was practicing and whatnot, it’s hard because you just want to play. That’s why you’re here.”

He’ll start next year. He has some making up to do. At the same time, if he can regain the form of when he came out of college, look out.
