Once a thorn in Melbourne Victory's side, Bruno Fornaroli will now help his former rivals chase silverware after sealing his expected switch from Perth Glory.

The former Melbourne City captain had been linked to a reunion with former Glory manager Tony Popovic in recent weeks, before his abrupt exit from Perth last Friday.

Fornaroli joins Victory's squad immediately with the club expecting him to be available for Friday night's home A-League Men game against Newcastle at AAMI Park.

"This is an exciting opportunity for me to join a club like Melbourne Victory and work with the boss again," Fornaroli said.

"Melbourne Victory is the biggest club in the country and to be representing them at a ground where I played some of the best football in my career is exciting for me, but exciting for all of the fans as well and I can't wait to get started."

Fornaroli has scored 82 goals in 142 ALM matches, fifth on the league's all-time goalscoring list, including 33 at AAMI Park.

He won the 2016 Australia Cup at City and previously scored nine goals in 14 ALM games against Victory.

Barely three days after dismissing links to Fornaroli as a "rumour", Popovic welcomed the 35-year-old to his attacking ranks.

"Bruno is a player who will complement our squad and supply another dimension to our final third," Popovic said.

"His qualities speak for themselves and having worked with him in the past, we believe the environment at Melbourne Victory will bring the best out of Bruno.

"Bruno is a leader and will add more experience to the squad to help us achieve success this season."

Two-time Socceroo Fornaroli's place in Victory's squad offers some intrigue.

Nick D'Agostino has established himself as Popovic's starting central striker while Tomi Juric is building minutes off the bench.

But Victory have been goalless in their past three matches and Fornaroli should offer some potent finishing.
