Fornals, Ogbonna, Masuaku - West Ham and Wolves injury news ahead of key Premier League clash

Following a three-game international break, having to wait until 8pm on Monday for a return to club action is both a blessing and a curse for West Ham.

On one hand, David Moyes' international players get two days more to rest, recuperate and prepare for their return to league action compared to Champions League rivals Chelsea, Leicester City and Liverpool.

On the flip side, the Hammers will go into their game knowing exactly how their rivals have fared and that could put extra pressure on Moyes' team to either match their results or take advantage of any slip-ups.

Whichever way you look at it, a win at Wolves will keep West Ham on course for Europe, a loss and if results go against them the Hammers could slip to 7th place.

Gareth Southgate pleased with Jesse Lingard return

The good news for Moyes is that all nine of his international players have returned to the club fit and healthy.

With Tomas Soucek playing 270 minutes for the Czech Republic over the space of a week, Vladimir Coufal and Declan Rice involved in 180 minutes of action in just four days and Lukasz Fabianski part of a Poland squad with a coronavirus outbreak, the safe return of all players is most welcome.

Jesse Lingard, Frederick Alves, Said Benrahma and Andriy Yarmolenko are all expected to report for West Ham duty on Friday without any injury concerns.

Yarmolenko did not feature for Ukraine but was involved in training and will have stepped up his recovery from the knee injury he picked up in February.

Pablo Fornals

Fornals is expected back for the clash with Wolves following his two-game absence from the side and will be in consideration for a starting spot on Onday evening.

Arthur Masuaku

Another injured player in contention is long-term absentee Arthur Masuaku, but it is unlikely following such a lengthy absence from first-team action that the Congoloese international will be straight back into the starting XI - but his is a welcome return to the squad.

Angelo Ogbonna

Angelo Ogbonna is no longer wearing his protective boot and is expected to be back training shortly, however, Monday night's game will come too soon for the Italian.

Wolves injury update

Wolves have been hit with some worrying injuries this season, none more so than the two head issues that star striker Raul Jimenez and goalkeeper Rui Patricio suffered.

Patricio is expected to have recovered from the nasty blow he took against Liverpool and will be back in goal for Nuno Espirito Santo's team. Jimenez is back in training following the fractured skull he suffered at Arsenal in November but Monday will still be way too soon for his return to first-team action.

Nuno is hopeful his striker will play again this season but is understandably cautious about a return date given the severity of the injury

"Let’s be patient and leave the decision to the doctors because it’s a serious situation where we cannot afford any kind of mistake,” he said.

Daniel Podence is expected to return for the clash with the Hammers but after missing the last seven league games through injury a place on the substitutes bench is more likely than in the starting XI.
