Formula One steps up, to donate one million euros for flood relief in Italy

NEW DELHI: In a generous move, Formula One has pledged to contribute 1 million euros ($1.10 million) towards assisting the communities impacted by the recent floods in the Emilia Romagna region of Italy.

This announcement came on Friday when it was revealed that the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, originally scheduled to take place at the Imola circuit this weekend, had to be cancelled due to the widespread devastation.

The donation from Formula One will be directed to the region's Agency for Territorial Safety and Civil Protection, which is actively involved in providing support and aid to those affected by the floods.

Stefano Domenicali, the Chief Executive of Formula One and a native of Imola, expressed his deep concern for the local communities, acknowledging the severity of the situation they are facing.

It is heartening to witness Formula One taking such a compassionate step to assist those in need during this challenging time, highlighting their commitment to social responsibility and supporting the regions where they hold their races.

"We must do everything we can to support them at this difficult time and that is why we are donating to help support the relief efforts on the ground," he said.

"My thoughts, on behalf of the entire Formula One community, are with everyone affected and we want to thank the emergency services for their incredible work."

In addition to F1's generous contribution, the Imola circuit holds a special significance as it is named after Enzo Ferrari, the founder of Ferrari, and his son Dino. Reflecting their close ties to the region, the Italian luxury sports car manufacturer, headquartered in Maranello, has also stepped forward to make a donation of one million euros.

The combined efforts of both Formula One and Ferrari, with their significant financial support, will undoubtedly make a substantial impact in aiding the recovery and rebuilding process for the affected communities in Emilia Romagna.
