Formula E could return to London in 2019-20 season

Formula E could return to London for the 2019-20 season.

The capital last hosted a race in 2016 — the season finale — in Battersea Park, however complaints from locals caused it to be removed from the calendar. But Formula E bosses have opened talks about alternative venues in London, with rival cities also vying to act as a race host.

Formula E boss Alejandro Agag said: “We have a plan with a few steps that we are going to be putting into motion if we can bring the race back to the UK.

“London would be our number one option but it doesn’t mean it has to be London. We would love to go to Birmingham and Manchester would be an option.”

The all-electric car series is on the rise on the eve of its fifth season.

Actor Leonardo DiCaprio is among the team owners, while 2016 Formula 1 champion Nico Rosberg recently revealed he had invested in the series.

Meanwhile Felipe Massa, winner of 11 grands prix, will be the latest high-profile name added to the grid for the season start in Saudi Arabia on December 15.

Formula E is based in the UK but Agag said the series was looking at other homes, among them Valencia, in case of a no-deal Brexit.
