Formula 1 odds: Capacity crowd of 140,000 announced for showpiece event of Grand Prix season

Formula 1 has been handed a huge boost with news that Silverstone will be allowed a full capacity crowd for the British Grand Prix in July.

The race, which takes place on Sunday July 18, will be staged in front of the largest crowd to attend a sporting event in the United Kingdom since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

The news will come as a huge boost to title-chasing Lewis Hamilton who is likely to benefit from a partisan crowd as he tries to close the gap on drivers’ championship leader Max Verstappen.

Hamilton is currently 11 points behind his Dutch rival, who leads the driver standings on 131 points for his Red Bull Racing Honda team and is a 19/20 chance in Grosvenor Sport’s F1 betting odds to land a record-breaking eighth world title.

Verstappen, who extended his lead with victory in the French Grand Prix last weekend, is 17/20 favourite to win his first championship.
