Formula 1 commentators battle British Grand Prix in miniature Scalextric Silverstone

Anthony Davidson draws parallels between Formula 1’s one-sided nature this season in his racing rivalry with David Croft.

More accustomed to sharing a commentary box with each other during the course of a grand prix weekend, the Sky Sports F1 pairing swapped the mic for controllers in a head-to-head at Silverstone.

The duo were racing each other on the new On Track Scalextric Exhibit at Silverstone Museum on a replica track of the one that will host the British Grand Prix this summer.

Members of the public can also try their hand at the track from April 1 onwards with an array of cars to choose from ranging from Damon Hill’s Williams FW16B-07 to a Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth.

Of their on-track tussle, Davidson said: “Usually, racing Crofty is not so much competition but it turned out to be fairly competitive. We had a good ding dong until he crashed.

“I didn’t realise it was such a replica of Silverstone. They’ve done such a good job of it. For anyone that doesn’t know the circuit, it gives a real flavour of the track.”

Meanwhile, Croft added: “I haven’t played Scalextric for ages. It’s mega and it’s got all the right corners… to what I still think is the greatest track on the F1 calendar.”
