A labrador has replaced his signature smile with a frown after being forced to cut out his favourite human snacks - but his owner insists he's very happy with his new bod.
Hilarious before and after photos of Miller the dog has seen a dramatic change in his expression after shedding almost a quarter of his bodyweight.
Despite previously tipping the scales at a whopping 48kg - almost 13kg over a healthy weight for his breed - he always appeared jolly with a belly full of peanut butter.
Miller's enthusiasm for snacks proved to be his downfall after he gobbled down a beer holder, requiring surgery.
Owner Jackie Hensley took him for surgery to have it removed in Illinois and a vet revealed that Miller would need to lose weight to alleviate stress of the stitches and improve his general health.
The bombshell news meant his favourite peanut butter was out, replaced by longer walks and lower calorie dog food, seeing him drop 11kg in nine months.
The impressive achievement has been celebrated by everyone, except, it appears, Miller himself, who now wears a constant scowl - with Jackie admitting he looks 'a bit sad' as he's no longer enjoying so many treats.
Jackie, a photographer, said: "Miller was a happy dog at his large and in charge size.
"And we all love our treats, so it's understandable he looks a bit sad.
"He may not look it, but he is a happier boy now.
"The main thing they mention is how it is harder on his joints to carry around that extra weight and can hurt him later in life.
"Plus, it's a lot nicer when he decides to jump on me and not knock me over."
Hungry Miller was previously always snacking off the floor but it was after his second surgery (the first was to retrieve a sock) that Jackie was told his weight would increase the risk of the operation.
Miller's tubby tum was the result of a daily diet which saw him wolf down four cups of dog food and plenty of human snacks in between.
Jackie said: "His favourite was peanut butter, he would do anything for it.
"After the surgery we became very determined to get him healthy.
"We switched his food to a light version and cut the quantity he had across the day in half.
"We also swapped his snacks to carrots and now he has learned to love them as a treat."
As well as a strict diet, Miller's exercise doubled to a daily 40 minute walk, with some fetch mixed in.
Jackie added that, although he may look a little grumpy, the improvement in his health has done him the world of good, meaning he is fitter, faster and full of energy.
She added; "Now he is a much more content dog and will chase after a ball all day long.
"After 10 months I looked at him and noticed how great and skinny he looked.
"He gets lots of compliments about how handsome he is now."
