Former Yankees catcher Jorge Posada joining Marlins as special adviser

A four-time World Series champion with the New York Yankees, Jorge Posada is reuniting with former teammate Derek Jeter in Miami.

The Marlins are hiring the former Yankees catcher as a special adviser to baseball operations, a source confirmed Tuesday.

Posada played his entire 17-year MLB career in New York, racking up 1,664 hits and 275 home runs. A five-time All-Star, Posada had his No. 20 jersey retired by the Yankees in 2015.

A member of the Yankees "Core Four" along with Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettite, Posada made his debut in 1995 and played alongside Jeter for his entire tenure. The two have shared a strong bond over the years, with Jeter serving as Posada's best man during his wedding.

Posada, 47, continues the Marlins' trend of bringing former Yankees to the organization. Gary Denbo (vice president of player development and scouting), Daniel Greenlee (director of player personnel) and Fernando Seguinol (international scouting director) are among many executives with New York ties.

On the coaching side, the Marlins added three new assistants this offseason with Yankees connections _ Mel Stottlemyer Jr. (pitching), Trey Hillman (first base/infield) and Jeff Livesey (assistant hitting).
