Former X Factor star Mary Byrne reveals how she lost five and a half stone

Former X factor star Mary Byrne says her daughters help keep her motivated when it comes to losing weight.

Mary lost an incredible five and half stone, and is still on track to lose another two to reach her personal target.

Mary looked incredible in a long black dress and silver jewellery as she stepped out for the CARI Charity Summer Lunch in the swanky Conrad Hotel in Dublin last week, and told RSVP Live that she is getting in shape for future work commitments.

She said: “I’ve lost five and a half stone now. I need to lose another two stone for me to feel comfortable. I won’t be skinny, but I’ll be at a nice weight for me.

"There’s a lot of stuff coming my way that I need to get fit for, so I need to get fitter than I am for my own sake and for what I’m going to be doing.”

Mary previously took part in Celebrity Operation Transformation which kick-started her weight loss journey, and has thankfully been able to stick to the diet plan which was put in place for her.

As well as eating healthily, the Dublin woman always makes sure to exercise each day.

“My daughter and myself eat, breakfast, lunch, dinner and tea and they’re all proportioned out and cooked freshly,” she explained.

“I then do 15 minutes on a treadmill a day and at least three or four times a week I do an hour’s swimming.”

But Mary’s diet isn’t too restrictive, and says that treating herself every now and again is important.

She said: “I eat everything in moderation and I would treat myself every weekend. I might get a takeaway, I might get a packet of crisps and a bar of chocolate, I might also have a few drinks.

“I don’t restrict myself to anything - you have to live. Going on healthy diets, if you stop [eating] everything you like you’ll break it.”

The singer and TV personality says it is her daughter Debbie who keeps her motivated through it all as they have both embarked on impressive weight loss journeys.

“She has lost nearly six stone over the years since the X Factor and she’s a gym bunny. She keeps me motivated. She tells me how wonderful I’m looking, how great it is for her mental health when she sees me being better. Also for me, I feel great,” Mary said.
