Former wrestler Daffney Unger 'died from gunshot wound' after concerning Instagram video

WCW wrestler Daffney Unger's death may have been caused by a self-inflicted 'gunshot wound to the chest', according to new details.

Unger, 46, was found dead in her Georgia residence on Thursday after appearing on Instagram in a worrying post to her followers the previous evening.

The ex-WCW star - nicknamed 'Scream Queen' - attracted widespread concern after appearing on camera with a pistol in her hand, crying in a plea to her fans.

Police went to Unger's home - real name Shannon Spruill - in Norcross, Georgia, on Thursday and found her dead after the fire department were called to help break her door down.

TMZ wrote the Gwinnett County Police Department report ruled Unger's death was caused by 'an apparent gunshot wound to the chest'.

A gun was reportedly found next to the victim's body at the scene.

Many within the wrestling community grew concerned for Unger after witnessing her final Instagram post, where she asked followers: "Do you guys not understand that I'm all alone?"

She became increasingly distressed on camera, pleading "just please stop" before noting in a moment of clarity: "Remember, my brain goes to Boston."

Several comments made by Unger suggested she was confident she was suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain condition brought on by repeat concussions.

Unger remarked: "The most important thing to remember is that CTE and head injuries and concussions, they can only really now be…

"They can now really only be diagnosed after you are dead. So, I don't want to do anything to hurt my brain. I want to be studied.

"I want the future generations to know. Don't do stupid s*** like me."

Unger made her wrestling breakthrough with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 1999 and became cruiserweight champion with the promotion, gaining notoriety for her punk-goth style and screaming antics.

She later impressed on the independent circuit and signed for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling in 2008, but her wrestling days were cut short when injury forced her to retire in 2011.
