Former Wisconsin judge learns fate in ICE obstruction arrest

  • Wisconsin judge Hannah Dugan has been fined $5,000 and spared a prison sentence after being convicted of felony obstruction.
  • Dugan, 67, was found guilty in December for obstructing federal agents during an immigration arrest attempt in her courtroom in April 2025.
  • U.S. District Judge Lynn Adelman cited Dugan's otherwise law-abiding life and dedication to public service as reasons for the lenient sentence, noting her actions did not ultimately prevent the arrest.
  • Dugan resigned from her Milwaukee County circuit judgeship in January amidst threats of impeachment and stated her prosecution threatened the independence of the judiciary.
  • Prosecutors had sought a “serious sentence,” arguing Dugan violated her judicial oath, but her legal team contended she had been “punished enough” and plans to appeal the conviction .
