Former Wigan Athletic, West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland winger joins Australian side Melbourne Victory

Former Wigan Athletic winger Callum McManaman has moved down under and joined Australian side Melbourne Victory.

The 29-year-old played 133 times for the Latics across two spells, scoring 18 goals in the process.

He joined the DW Stadium outfit from Everton and made his debut for the club in 2009.

He was part of the squad which won the FA Cup in 2013 under Roberto Martinez and scored 17 goals in 109 games across his first spell at the club.

In 2015, he moved to West Bromwich Albion and then had a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday, before moving to Sunderland in 2017.

He returned to the Latics in 2018 and stayed for another season at the club, before spending the 2019/20 campaign at Luton Town.

He has now penned a two-year deal with the A-League side.

McManaman told the club website: "Melbourne Victory is such a big club in Australia with a proud history, and after speaking with Grant (Brebner) I knew this was a great opportunity for my career.

"I’m really looking forward to getting to Melbourne, I can't wait to meet my new teammates and putting in the hard work over the pre-season.

"As I said, this is a proud club with a huge supporter base and we all want to help get Victory back up the table. It’s going to take plenty of hard work, but I can’t wait to get started under Grant."

The Australian club's head coach Grant Brebner said McManaman is a 'very experienced' player who has performed on the 'biggest stage in the world’s toughest club competition' in the Premier League.

He said: "He’s a wonderful addition to our playing group. Callum works hard both ways, is a proven goal scorer and at only 29 years of age, has plenty of good football ahead of him.

"There’s no question Callum is a very talented player but what he also brings is leadership and a hunger for success. He will play an important role in driving the standards of our playing group on and off the pitch."
