Former White Sox slugger Paul Konerko swings for $6.9-million sale in Del Mar

April 14--Former Major League Baseball player Paul Konerko is ready to play ball for his home in Olde Del Mar, listing the ocean-view contemporary for sale at $6.9 million.

Built in 2010, the custom house circles the bases with a number of standout features: bi-folding walls of glass, a game room/theater and lower-level lounge with a 1,000-bottle wine cellar and a wet bar.

Outdoors, the landscaped grounds of roughly half an acre center on a resort-style swimming pool. A raised spa, a fire pit and a waterfall feature complement the pool.

The 6,000 square feet of open-plan interiors features a chef's kitchen with an island/breakfast bar, a family room with a wet bar, a formal living room, four bedrooms and six bathrooms. The master suite, with a stacked-stone fireplace and a large soaking tub, takes in treetop and ocean views.

A three-car garage with extra room for a golf cart sits off the front of the home.

The property last changed hands in 2011 for $5.3 million, records show.

Timothy Walsh of Classic Realty holds the listing.

Konerko, 40, broke into the big leagues with the Dodgers in 1997, but was dealt to the Reds the following season in a package for pitcher Jeff Shaw. That same year, the slugging first baseman was traded again, this time to the White Sox, where he earned six all-star nods and a World Series title in 16 seasons.

He retired in 2014 with 439 home runs.
