Former Wetherspoon pub taken over and this is what's in store

A pub which closed down suddenly in 2019 is set to reopen under new ownership when the coronavirus restrictions are lifted.

The Twitchel Inn was once a Wetherspoon pub, and more recently it was run by Hawthorne Leisure.

Staff were devastated when the Long Eaton pub shut with immediate effect in July 2019 - just two years after a £75,000 makeover.

The owners blamed "tough trading conditions".

But after months of standing empty, it has now been taken over by the Derbyshire-based Pub People Company which operates nearly 50 establishments across the East Midlands including the Lion in Basford, the Coach and Horses in Derby, The Bridge in Sandiacre and Six Barrel Drafthouse in Nottingham.

A major refurbishment will start soon to convert it into a cafe bar.

"It will be a similar but softer version of Six Barrels," said Andy Crawford, the operations director.

The property, in Howitt Street, just off the main high pedestrianised high street, will be renamed the Corner Room.
