Former West Ham striker makes Jose Mourinho admission amid David Moyes job pressure

West Ham United should target Jose Mourinho should they sack David Moyes, according to former striker Frank McAvennie.

The Hammers currently lie outside of the relegation zone but only on goal difference, having not won a Premier League fixture in their last six outings.

Moyes has been asked in recent press conferences about his future, with the message from the Scottish coach being that he has the backing of the board and football.london understands that no change is forthcoming at the club.

However, that hasn't stopped bookmakers placing the ex-Manchester United boss as one of the favourites to lose his job in the top-flight and with the club near the bottom of the table, former Hammer McAvennie has suggested current Roma boss Mourinho could be a good fit at the London Stadium should a change be made.

Using his previous success at Chelsea, Manchester United and his coaching style as examples of why the Portuguese boss could do well in east London, McAvennie also questioned whether fans would want someone like ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel or whether out of work manager Mauricio Pochettino would want to take charge of West Ham.

“I don’t know who’s out there,” he said, as reported by West Ham Zone. "Would he [Mauricio Pochettino] come in and take the job? He’d come in and make players better that’s for sure.

“I don’t know if the fans would want [Thomas] Tuchel, they didn’t want [Manuel] Pellegrini. I don’t know who is out there. I always wanted [Jose] Mourinho in there, he’d be a great fit. Because he doesn’t stand for fools.

“Everything he said about Man United came true didn’t it. He got absolutely crucified for it but [Paul] Pogba and all of them, [Luke] Shaw, [Harry] Maguire not good enough and all of a sudden everyone notices that now.

“I wanted him years ago but I don’t know if he’d be accepted now. It wouldn’t be a problem for me that’s for sure. He’s a winner, he wins. Everywhere he goes he wins something.”
