Former West Ham star Kieron Dyer undergoing tests in hospital after suffering collapsed lung

Former West Ham United midfielder Kieron Dyer has been admitted to hospital and is currently under going tests shortly after suffering a collapsed lung.

Currently the manager of Ipswich Town's Under-23 side, Dyer was due to appear on Channel 4 show Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins but was forced to withdraw after suffering the problem.

A statement from Ipswich read: "The club can confirm that Town U23 manager Kieron Dyer is currently undertaking tests in hospital.

"Everyone at Ipswich Town Football Club sends their best wishes to Kieron at this time.

"We ask everyone to respect Kieron's privacy, and we will be making no further comment on the matter."

Dyer made the move to Upton Park in the summer of 2007 for £6million from Newcastle United, signing a four-year deal only to suffer a broken leg in the League Cup 10 days after his debut.

In total he spent 17 months on the sidelines with the injury before returning against Barnsley in the FA Cup in January 2009, only to keep suffering repeated injury blows.

As the club's top earner, and with the Hammers suffering financial strife, Dyer was released in the summer of 2011.

Spells with QPR and Middlesbrough followed before his retirement from the game two years after leaving Upton Park.

His coaching career flourished after accepting a role in the Tractor Boys academy in 2014, however, and he has remained a part of the club's set-up ever since.

Following Paul Cook's appointment he has also frequently been involved in first-team activities, often assisting Cook on matchdays.
