Former West Ham defender makes Declan Rice transfer prediction amid Chelsea and Man United links

Former West Ham right-back Glen Johnson has had his say on the future of Hammers' star Declan Rice amid growing interest from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.

Rice has been on an exceptional run of form, cementing his place at the heart of Gareth Southgate's England midfield in the process, but it has not gone unnoticed.

Chelsea are known to be long-term admirers of the 22-year-old while Manchester United and Manchester City are also said to be pondering a future move.

football.london understands that there are yet to be any official bid lodged for Rice from these clubs and that any bid would also not be welcome at the London Stadium. They have no interest in selling and point to his long contract as evidence that he will be going nowhere soon.

A £100million price tag has even been slapped on Rice by way of a deterrent, although it reportedly led to the midfielder rejecting a new deal in the summer.

However, Johnson, who left West Ham for Chelsea himself back in 2003, feels that the hot-prospect could be on the move soon.

"I would of course love him to stay," Johnson said in an interview with BettingOdds.com.

"But if he wants to win trophies and fight for titles and go deep in the Champions League, clearly as we all know, he’s not going to do it at West Ham.

"It’s all about timing and how ambitious he wants to be. I think he is ambitious so I’m sure he won’t want to flirt around the middle of the table for the rest of his career. I’m sure something will happen soon, but I hope it doesn’t!"

David Moyes' side are back in action against Southampton this weekend, hoping to keep up a strong start to the season that sees them in second place in the Premier League with seven points from three games.
