Former West Ham and England ace offers Scott McTominay Irons transfer claim

Former West Ham United and England full-back Glen Johnson believes the addition of Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay would be a "decent signing" for the Irons as David Moyes' side attempt to bolster their ranks before the transfer deadline.

After making his debut for the club in 2017, McTominay has been an ever-present at Old Trafford but has often found himself on the wrong end of criticism from supporters. The 25-year-old boasts 123 Premier League appearances and represented Scotland at Euro 2020.

Whilst suggesting that McTominay would not be a game-changing signing for his former side, Johnson told bettingodds.com that the Red Devils academy graduate could prove to be a useful member of Moyes' squad if the Hammers are to compete on both domestic and European fronts this season.

Johnson claimed: “I think he’s a decent enough player. I don’t think at the moment he’s world-class in terms of being in the top four or five clubs but West Ham need bodies. They’re going to go deep in a few tournaments this season so I think that would be a decent signing.”

The departure of club legend Mark Noble has left a sizeable gap in midfield both on and off the pitch at the London Stadium with 23-year-old Flynn Downes signed from Swansea City to try and comprehend Noble's absence.

West Ham will be searching for their first points of the new campaign as they visit Aston Villa on Sunday after three consecutive defeats saw them routed to the bottom of the Premier League table.
