Former West Ham and Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri goes AWOL during Belgian shutdown

According to reports in Belgium, Anderlecht have no idea where former West Ham midfielder Samir Nasri currently is amid the Belgian league shutdown.

Nasri spent six largely forgettable months in east London last season having been brought in by former manager Manuel Pellegrini, who worked with the player at Manchester City, as a free agent.

However it didn’t really pan out for Nasri in east London, a bizarre injury suffered last April ruled him out for the remainder of the season and he played just six times for the Hammers, bagging two assists in that time.

Pellegrini didn’t bow down to Nasri’s wage demands this past summer and the midfielder didn’t return for the start of the 2019/20 campaign as he joined Vincent Kompany’s revolution at Anderlecht on a reported €1.5million contract.

But it hasn’t worked out for the former Arsenal man in Belgium either, despite scoring two goals in his first six outings in the Jupiler League.

He hasn’t played for Anderlecht since October 20 having suffered a hamstring injury and then a tear in his adductor muscle.

A report in Belgian outlet HLN claims that Anderlecht are “no longer counting” on Nasri and adds they will not be renewing his contract at the end of his one-year stint with the club.

The report adds that Nasri has not been forwarding any results of his individual training sessions away from the team in recent weeks with players banned from their training grounds amid the coronavirus outbreak.

On April 2, it was announced that Club Brugge are expected to be announced as champions of the Belgian league this season with no potential return of action in sight.

While at West Ham, Nasri’s time was cut short by a bizarre injury he picked up against Chelsea.

He was warming up at half time, ready to come on for the second half as the Hammers chased the game but failed to emerge, suffering a calf problem.

Pellegrini said after that game at Stamford Bridge: “Samir Nasri was going to start in the second half, but in the warm-up he felt a muscle injury in his calf and wasn't confident to play.”
