A former warehouse worker who stabbed a man during city violence suffered a "significant head injury" himself.
Yusef Jama, 20, of Lechlade Road, Bestwood, received the injury to his forehead from someone using a bottle from a table in a branch of McDonald's.
Jama pleaded guilty to wounding a man, who had a single stab wound to the chest.
This plea was accepted as an alternative to a more serious allegation of wounding with intent.
Jama further admitted having a knife in Milton Street, Nottingham, on October 31, 2021, and possessing a quantity of cannabis on the same date.
The offences put him in breach of a conviction, imposed at Nottingham Crown Court, on January 27, 2021, for possessing a knife or sharp bladed article in public.
Jama was given a 12-month conditional discharge previously for this offence and is now, due to the breach, to be resentenced for the original offence.
His court appearance comes after a man in his 20s was taken to hospital after reportedly being stabbed in the chest in Milton Street at around 5.40am on Sunday, October 31.
The victim’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. He has since said to have been wholly uncooperative and there was no proper medical evidence as to the injury sustained.
The CCTV had shown the victim approaching Jama first.
Mrs Earnshaw said: "It was a single stab wound to the chest".
The case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report to be prepared to April 15.
Recorder Auty told Jama, who remains in custody, in the dock: "The report needs to consider the question of your danger to wider society in light of your previous convictions and for breach of a conditional discharge for possession of a bladed article.
"This case, in my judgement, crosses the custodial threshold by some considerable degree and I cannot see any other prospect of a custodial sentence being passed on you."
Detective Inspector Ruby Burrow, from Nottinghamshire Police, had said: “This assault left a young man in hospital and we are absolutely committed to our investigation and to determine the circumstances around this incident".
