Former Wales U20s player rushed to hospital after collapsing in Cardiff Arms Park tunnel following Welsh Cup match

Former Wales under-20s and Dragons centre Barney Nightingale was rushed to hospital after collapsing in the players tunnel at the end of Cardiff’s Specsavers National Cup win over Ebbw Vale at the Arms Park on Friday night.

The 22-year-old set up the first of cup holders Cardiff’s 11 tries and scored the 10th in their 78-12 win as they eased their way into the quarter-finals. He suffered a seizure in the dressing room as the after the game and was rushed to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff for tests.

“The scans were all clear and he was up and about and talking to everyone but the doctors were looking further into the seizure he suffered. They are keeping him under observation to ensure everything is okay,” said a Cardiff RFC spokesman.

“He received immediate specialist medical attention from club representatives following his seizure and the ambulance arrived speedily to take him to hospital.”

The strong-running Nightingale went down in a challenge in the eighth minute as he set up the first try but got up to continue for the rest of the game without any apparent difficulty.

Nightingale is now understood to be at home and doing well.
