Former Virginia LB Micah Kiser celebrates national championship win

After being bounced in the first round by No. 16 UMBC last year, the Virginia Cavaliers redeemed themselves in spectacular fashion Monday night. They knocked off Texas Tech in the national championship at U.S. Bank Stadium, winning 85-77 in overtime to capture the school’s first title.

Rams linebacker Micah Kiser was watching closely as his alma mater took on the Red Raiders, hoping the Cavaliers could pull off the win. And they did.

Fellow 2018 draftee Sebastian Joseph-Day knew Kiser had his eyes on the game, sending out this tweet.

After the final horn, Kiser celebrated the win on Twitter, calling for coach Tony Bennett to get a statue.

The Rams shared a photo of Kiser, as well, to which he responded by saying “Let’s Go HOOS!!!!”

Kiser was drafted by the Rams in the fifth round last year after a great career at Virginia. He graduated with a degree in foreign affairs and won the William V. Campbell Trophy, which is known as the academic version of the Heisman. He’s working toward earning a master’s degree in higher education, too.

Kiser could be a starter for the Rams next season after the team cut Mark Barron. He’s currently penciled in as the No. 2 linebacker next to Cory Littleton, so his playing time should increase significantly in 2019.
