Former village head shot dead in Pattani

PATTANI: A former village chief was gunned down while returning from a local mosque in Kapho district on Friday night.

The attack occurred in front of a kubo, a Muslim cemetery, in Wang Phla village of tambon Pong Hoi, said Pol Capt Phanakorn Intha, a duty officer at Kapho police station, who was reported at around 7pm on Friday.

Sukree Jaewae, 57, a former head of Wang Phla village Moo 9, was seriously wounded when he was found. Local residents helped bring him to Thung Yang Daeng hospital but he died on the way. 

According to a police investigation, he was shot by an unknown number of assailants while returning from the village’s mosque after prayers.
