Former Vikings QB Trevor Siemian to start for Jets on ‘MNF’

With the news that Jets quarterback Sam Darnold will miss some time with mononucleosis, that means backup quarterback Trevor Siemian is next in line.

Siemian spent the 2018 season with the Vikings as the backup for quarterback Kirk Cousins. He did not appear in any games for the Vikings, but in the two seasons prior, Siemian started 24 games for the Broncos and led them to a 13-11 record, throwing for 5,686 yards, 30 touchdowns and 24 interceptions.

It’s for sure a drop-off for the Jets, but they could do a lot worse at backup than Siemian.

This could be somewhat of an audition for Siemian to prove he might be worth a flier as a starter somewhere next season, although that seems unlikely. Siemian has one-year, $2 million deal with the Jets.
