Former Vikings QB Case Keenum named Washington starter

Case Keenum, who led the Vikings to the 2017 NFC Championship game, will open the 2019 season as the starting quarterback for the Washington Redskins.

Keenum beat out Dwayne Haskins, the 15th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. While Haskins is expected to start eventually, Keenum will be the guy in Week 1.

The journeyman quarterback spent time with the Texans and Rams before signing with the Vikings in 2017 to be Sam Bradford’s backup. Instead, Keenum filled in for the injured Bradford, starting 14 games and throwing for 3,547 yards and 22 touchdowns.

The Vikings decided to sign Kirk Cousins rather than bringing Keenum back. Keenum then signed with the Broncos. Denver was just 6-10 and Keenum threw for a career-high 3,890 yards, but threw just 18 touchdowns compared to 16 interceptions.

And with the Broncos deciding to trade for Joe Flacco, they traded Keenum and a seventh-round pick to the Redskins for a sixth-round pick.

Now, Keenum (31) will get another chance to lead a team. We’ll see how long that will last for.
