Former Victorian Liberal leader Matthew Guy welcomed back onto Opposition front bench

Matthew Guy wants to know how the Government will pay back money borrowed to finance the COVID recovery.

Former Liberal leader Matthew Guy is being welcomed back to the Liberal Nationals shadow cabinet in a reshuffle announced today.

Mr Guy quit as Liberal leader in December 2018, after a disastrous loss in the state election, and was replaced by Michael O'Brien.

Mr O'Brien said Mr Guy would take over responsibility for finance, jobs and trade, and as the shadow minister for business precincts.

"With Victoria's debt exceeding that of even the Cain/Kirner government and our state in a jobs crisis, Matthew will be a strong voice for Victorians left behind by Labor's economic mismanagement," he said.

Mr Guy said he was delighted and honoured to be back on the front bench and would be focusing on the Government's COVID-19 spending plans.

"We are taking on a debt profile like no other. Adding $130 billion of debt in just four years is quite astounding," Mr Guy said.

"It's completely irresponsible to take on debt when you don't have a plan to repay any of it.

"Just remember when Labor runs out of money they'll come after yours so we'll wait and see what taxes come out from this Government."

Mr O'Brien will take over a new position of shadow minister for COVID Recovery.

Cindy McLeish, the deputy Liberal leader, takes on the tourism and major events portfolios, which will be critical to the state's future, as the state recovers from lockdown, Mr O'Brien said.

The education portfolios, including early childhood and higher education, will be handled by David Hodgett.

David Morris takes over a newly created portfolio of shadow minister of public sector integrity and transparency, which will focus on public sector finances.

Ryan Smith will take on the additional role of manufacturing and innovation and Richard Riordan will be given added responsibilities for the role of scrutiny of Government.
