Former vegan ‘drank his urine’ to stop him eating meat again after lifestyle ‘made him sick’

A former vegan says he has started eating meat again after the lifestyle ‘made him sick’.

Tim Shieff told This Morning that he even resorted to drinking his own urine in a last ditch effort not to revert to meat eating.

The former vegan influencer, who used to create videos defending animals because there is “no one speaking up for them”, has even gone so far as saying he’d hunt animals to eat.

Tim explained to presenters John Barrowman and Rochelle Hulmes that he jumped ‘feet first’ into veganism after watching a documentary exposing the slaughter of animals in the industry.

But he now says that the diet - which excludes any foods that come from animals, including dairy products and eggs - left him with health issues including chronic fatigue and depression.

He said: “My whole body felt like it was shutting down.”

Despite this he did what he could to stop himself going back to a meat diet.

“I was going through real extreme ways to try and manage it within the vegan diet and it wasn’t until I sort of broke free from that that I was able to [get better],” he said.

John Barrowman dug further into Tim’s methods, revealing that he drank his own urine, took B12 supplements and did yoga rather that get help from his GP.

Explaining why, Tim said: “I’m in the avant-garde realm of healing. I want to find simple, natural solutions.

“I just don’t mind being the guy on the edge doing alternative things. I see everyone else trying all the other stuff, and that’s not working either.”

Despite six years as a vegan, Tim says he doesn’t regret his decision to eat meat again.

“I have to speak my truth. Veganism - it helped me in the beginning, but I’ve tried so many things to make it work, and I was so shocked when the last thing I thought would work – to consume animal products – worked,” he said.

“My depression lifted, joints feeling a lot better, energy back in my body.”

Viewers were convinced his health issues were likely made worse by his bizarre urine drinking habit.

One said: “This bloke didn't understand science when he was a Vegan and he doesn't understand it now.

“He thought drinking pee would cure his ills and he thinks having a salmon sandwich fixed him overnight.

"Maybe better research and less Ted Talks and youtube videos.”

Another said: “But is the ex vegan still drinking his own p*ss? Or have all his illnesses miraculously cleared up since he stopped that vile practice?”

A third said: “Nothing wrong with a good vegan diet - maybe it was the p*ss drinking and a poor vegan diet.”

This Morning airs weekdays from 10.30am on ITV1.
