Former UFC man Paddy Holohan wins South Dublin councillor title after seventh count announcement

Whether it's the Octagon or politics there's always fight in Paddy Holohan who knocked out the competition to claim a first-time seat on South Dublin County Council.

The humble former fighter announced last February he'd be running in the South Tallaght area, and after a tireless effort he's proved one of the area's top picks.

The UFC star was hotly tipped to take a seat after the first few counts and by Sunday evening at 7pm he was punching the air in delight.

A large hush engulfed Citywest as the official announcement came confirming Holohan as a councillor on the seventh count.

The former teammate of MMA superstar Conor McGregor saw his career come to an abrupt end when he was forced to retire in 2016 on the advice of doctors.

He explained he has Factor XIII missing from his blood, meaning he would be unable to pass the UFC's medical requirements.

He now joins Olympic Gold boxer Kennth Egan who also retained his SDCC seat running for Fine Gael in Clondalkin.
