Former Tottenham star slams Jose Mourinho and his tactics following FA Cup exit to Norwich City

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O'Hara has called on Jose Mourinho to stop making excuses about injury issues to cover up Spurs' disappointing run of recent results.

Spurs crashed out of the FA Cup at the fifth-round stage on Wednesday evening at home to the Premier League's bottom club, Norwich City, who progressed to the last-eight of the competition by winning 3-2 on penalties, after the two sides played out 1-1 draw after 120 minutes.

The defeat, which was overshadowed by Eric Dier's post-match decision to climb into the stands following the shoot-out to confront a Spurs supporter, marked a fourth in succession for the North London club, meaning pressure is beginning to mount on Mourinho, who has been blasted once again for his negative approach to matches.

And for former Spurs man O'Hara, who spent six years at the club, enough is enough, with the 33-year-old calling on the Tottenham boss to cut out the excuses and focus on trying to secure his side some much-needed wins.

'Every one of us would do': Mourinho responds to Dier confrontation

"I am getting a little bit sick and tired of the excuses that he keeps coming out with," O'Hara told talkSPORT. "I backed it where he has lost Harry Kane, he has lost [Heung-Min] Son and he has tried to find a way to win and it hasn't happened.

"But the negativity and the mentality of 'Let's all feel sorry for us, let's worry about injuries, we have got [Lucas] Moura wanting to come off and we have got [Steven] Bergwijn wanting to come off and let's all feel sorry for Tottenham.'

"No, come on. You need to get results and you need to pick it up. You have still got a good enough squad there to beat Norwich and get results."

Spurs' exit to the Canaries, who are still fighting for their lives to avoid relegation to the Championship, means Tottenham's only hopes of lifting a trophy this season remain in the Champions League - a competition O'Hara believes they will be out of by this time next week.

The former Tottenham man continued: "Now there is kind of no excuses left for Mourinho. He was brought in to win a trophy and getting knocked out by Norwich in the FA Cup really puts your season into perspective of where they are going, because I don't think they are going to get through against Leipzig [in the Champions League] either, so it could be season over next week."

Even though Spurs have been rocked by the losses of Kane and Son, O'Hara insists that Mourinho should still be more than capable of getting results in their absence with the players that he has.

"I feel for him in a certain way but he is getting paid a lot of money and he has got to be able to find results," O'Hara added.

"There is still a very good squad of players there at Tottenham, a very good squad, and you need to find a way to lift them up and give them the confidence to believe that they can go and win games.

"I think the problem that they have had is that all he [Mourinho] has banged on about is the injuries to Harry Kane and to Son, and they are big losses, but it has now got to the point where he still has to get results for them.

"This is Tottenham Hotspur."
