Rafael van Der Vaart is adored by the Tottenham fans.
The Dutch star only spent two years in England with Spurs, but he became an instant fans’ favourite, scoring four goals and producing two assists in four games against bitter rivals Arsenal and helping Spurs to reach the quarter-finals pf the Champions League in their first season in Europe’s elite competition.
But while he is a firm fans’ favourite in N17, he is unlikely to win any friends in Merseyside, particularly on the blue side.
That is because the former Dutch skipper delivered a brutal put down of Everton’s transfer policy and the way they use their players.
The Toffees have been linked with a move for Steve Berghuis in the summer transfer window, following a fine season for Feyenoord.
The 28-year-old has scored 15 goals and laid on seven assists in 23 games in the Eredivisie to help the club into third place in the table, six points behind leaders Ajax.
And while a move to Spurs was fruitful for van der Vaart, he has warned his countryamn against signing for Everton this summer.
As reported by Sport Witness, he said: "I think he should stay with Feyenoord. He is the man there, the team is built around him.
"Do you have to go to Everton when you are almost 29 or something? If you don’t play well there twice, they will set up a clumsy Englishman and you will be out of the picture, also with Oranje [national team]."
