Christian Eriksen has insisted he "won't give up" as he released his first public message since collapsing due to a cardiac arrest in Denmark's Euro 2020 clash with Finland on Saturday.
The former Tottenham midfielder collapsed late into the first half of his country's Euro 2020 clash with Finland in Copenhagen, which was later resumed as Finland won 1-0.
Eriksen received CPR on the pitch, with his team-mates surrounding him on the pitch to prevent cameras catching the distressing footage of their friend.
After around 15 minutes of treatment on the pitch, the 29-year-old midfielder was then carried off on a stretcher, with the Euros group match being temporarily suspended.
When informed of Eriksen being awake and in a stable condition in hospital later in the evening, the players from both sides requested to resume the match.
Now, the former Spurs star, who left Tottenham to join Inter Milan, has issued his first public statement since collapsing at the weekend.
In a message via his agent, Martin Schoots, to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Eriksen said: "Thank you, I won't give up. I feel better now - but I want to understand what's happened.
"I want to say thank you all for what you did for me."
The collapse was confirmed as a cardiac arrest on Sunday afternoon by Denmark team doctor, Morten Boesen.
Boesan said: "He was gone. We did cardiac resuscitation, it was a cardiac arrest.
"How close were we to losing him? I don't know, but we got him back after one defib [defibrillation] so that's quite fast.
"The examinations that have been done so far look fine. We don't have an explanation to why it happened."
