Former Tottenham left-back Christian Ziege has stated it is far too early to write off Mauricio Pochettino's side this season - and has backed them for a memorable result in the Champions League.
The Lilywhites have struggled to find consistency at the start of 2019/20, picking up 11 points from their opening seven Premier League matches and drawing with Olympiacos in their opening Champions League group stage tie.
That has raised the pressure upon Spurs, with Pochettino cutting a frustrated figure in the Spurs' dugout and speculation of managerial changes in North London on the horizon.
Already 10 points behind Liverpool and with work to do in their European campaign, there are certainly reasons for fans to be asking questions of their side's inconsistencies.
However, as Ziege has explained, it is far too early to come to any significant conclusions around Tottenham this season and there is no reason to doubt Pochettino.
“Pochettino is one of the biggest reasons why Spurs are in the position they’re in. They are now a contender every year and that’s mainly down to him," he told i News.
"We are not even close to the winter, where things really get going in the Premier League, so it’s far too early to write him off. I was once told that you must either change the players or the manager consistently, but in this instance I don’t think Pochettino can leave.”
With a mammoth clash against Bayern Munich on the horizon, Spurs will need to be at their best to secure a result but Ziege believes they will have something to celebrate after their midweek clash.
“Spurs had big problems against Olympiakos and maybe underestimated them, but in Harry Kane they have a player who can disappear for most of the game and then pop up with two goals.
“Bayern have made some good signings in Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Perisic but after losing Mats Hummels to Dortmund they are certainly weaker at the back. To win the Champions League you need a fantastic defence and I’m not sure Bayern have that.
“I think it will be 2-2, and I’d be happy for both teams if that is the case.”
