Former Tottenham midfielder delivers damning Spurs verdict after Manchester City defeat

Jamie Redknapp has described Tottenham Hotspur as "too easy to play against" after seeing his old side lose out 3-0 against Manchester City.

Jose Mourinho's men were well beaten at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday night, with a Rodri penalty and two goals from Ilkay Gundogan helping Pep Guardiola's men to a comfortable victory.

It was a disappointing performance and result for Spurs as they slipped to ninth in the Premier League, with north London rivals Arsenal moving to within two points of them after a 4-2 victory against Leeds United on Sunday.

But Redknapp was not impressed with what he saw from his old side against the Premier League leaders, with the former Spurs midfielder critical of some of the Tottenham players for their roles in the defeat.

“They were passive all game, really," he said, speaking on Sky Sports.

"This is a side who are too easy to play against right now, earlier in the season they were making challenges and they were too easy to play against.

"It’s always difficult with this City side because they move the ball so quickly, they want you to dive into tackles, but [Moussa] Sissoko - very much like [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg in the first-half - has got to follow that run (of Ilkay Gundogan for his first goal).

"Take nothing away from Gundogan, he’s in such good form, he’s full of confidence, he’s getting numbers right now that I didn’t think he’d have. It sums up this Man City side.”
