Former Spurs midfielder accuses club of causing dressing room disharmony with Harry Kane deal

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder David Bentley has insisted that Spurs have created their own problems with several contract rebels after giving Harry Kane a big-money deal.

Christian Eriksen's future has been the topic of debate around north London for weeks on end.

The Danish midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to agree fresh terms.

The uncertainty over his future has caused Mauricio Pochettino to leave out his star midfielder in two of Tottenham's opening three Premier League fixtures.

There is still a real possibility Eriksen could leave before the European transfer window closes next week. If not, he could go for nothing next summer.

Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Danny Rose are all in the same situation, which has caused unrest in the Spurs camp.

Bentley, who played over 40 times for Tottenham in five years at the club, believes that the decision to award Kane a big-money deal last year has caused the contract mutiny that the club are now dealing with.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5Live's Friday Night Social, the former Spurs winger said: "I don't think it's (players wanting to leave) good for the harmony in the camp. It all balls down to money. Daniel Levy to save it, Pochettino to spend it.

"The players want their worth. I think the disharmony in the camp, they've built themselves up to a certain level of player.

"They've got one player there earning top money, which is well deserved, but players like Eriksen, Vertonghen, Eriksen will be saying 'I'm the biggest star in Denmark so I should get 200, whatever the Harry Kane number is.

"They've set the benchmark there. We know, we've been in dressing rooms. It causes disharmony. If he has a couple of bad games and doesn't score, the finger starts getting pointed and the disharmony starts creeping in, you can see it.

"15 points from 15 matches, they haven't won an away match since January. That, you can see, it's starting to leak out now. It does all boil down to money."
