Former Tottenham man backs Arsene Wenger over Serge Gnabry transfer decision

Former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood has admitted that he is amazed by the development of Serge Gnabry at Bayern Munich.

Gnabry was a member of Arsenal's Academy before rising through the ranks and going on to make making 14 appearances for the club's first team in 2013/14 season.

But following a serious knee injury, which kept him sidelined for a whole year, and a failed loan move to West Brom, Gnabry left the Emirates in 2016 to join Werder Bremen.

Since then, the 24-year-old has gone on to become one of the standout stars in the Bundesliga, with Sherwood left surprised at the German's progress having initially thought he was ‘average at best’ while with the Gunners.

“One player who looks like a different boy is Serge Gnabry,” Sherwood told talkSPORT on Tuesday morning.

“When I saw him at Arsenal I thought he was probably average at best.

“But give credit to him; he’s gone away, developed and now looks a real threat.

“They [Bayern] are going to be very, very tricky.

“I’m going for a draw, and I don’t think a draw is the worst result for both sides.

“I think both these teams will qualify from the group.”
