Former Tottenham goalkeeper urges Spurs to ‘invest heavily’ in perfect Harry Kane replacement

Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper, Paul Robinson, has encouraged Spurs to make a huge bid for Everton striker, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, if Harry Kane leaves the club this summer.

The England captain’s slow start to Euro 2020 had led to questions over whether he was being affected by the transfer speculation surrounding his future, with Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea among the potential suitors for the striker.

But Kane’s last two performances at the tournament against Germany and Ukraine respectively - where he found the net three times in total – have shown yet again why he is considered to be one of the best strikers in the world.

His number two at the tournament, Calvert-Lewin, hasn’t had the minutes to really make an impact for the Three Lions so far, but Robinson believes that if Kane does eventually leave Spurs, the Everton man is his ideal long-term replacement.

“If Tottenham lose Kane they need to go after somebody like Calvert-Lewin. He is a player who can lead the line,” he told Football Insider, via Football 365.

“Spurs will have to invest heavily in a number nine if Kane goes. They will have to go deep into their pockets to find a replacement, that’s for sure.

“Go and test Everton’s resolve. Go and put in a massive bit because Calvert-Lewin is someone who I think is capable of taking over from Kane.”

The Sheffield born striker scored 16 times for the Toffees in the Premier League last season and has shown that he can find the net for the national team in Kane’s absence too, scoring four times in just eleven caps for Gareth Southgate’s side.

But before the pair make any decisions about their future, they’ll be fully focussed on England’s semi-final clash with Denmark at Wembley, as the Three Lions attempt to reach the final of the competition for the very first time.
