Former Tottenham manager Martin Jol has told Harry Kane that "the grass is not greener" after being told to quit Spurs by Rio Ferdinand.
The former Manchester United defender, speaking prior to Spurs' crushing 7-2 defeat at home to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, said the England international may have to leave Tottenham in order to win trophies.
Kane, who scored in Tuesday night's drubbing, captained the north London club to last season's Champions League final, but goals in either half from Mohammed Salah and Divock Origi condemned Mauricio Pochettino's side to a 2-0 defeat in Madrid.
“It leads me to look at Harry Kane,” Ferdinand said. “What are you in the game for? Are you in the game to be a one club man or to win trophies?
“Do Spurs look like a team capable of winning trophies? I don’t think so. They were a better team a couple of years ago.
“Leeds is a similar example; I was maybe a year or two younger but I was in a team at a Champions League semi-final, nearly won the league, but I thought I had a better chance elsewhere and I had the opportunity to go. I made a very quick decision to go and win trophies.
“Harry Kane is probably thinking about it and having those questions. They need answering soon. He’s 26 and you only have a small window of opportunity, they come and go very quickly.”
But Jol, speaking on talkSPORT on Wednesday morning, has told the Spurs striker to be cautious in any decision he makes in regards to his future.
“I said yesterday that [Robert] Lewandowski is unbelievable and that he’d be the best no.9 in England," the Dutchman said.
“And I think Kane is the same, and maybe a little more versatile than [Robert] Lewandowski.
“To influence him a bit I would say the grass is not greener on the other side.
“I think Harry Kane is on a very good contract, and he is a Spurs boy."
