Former Tottenham boss explains why Brendan Rodgers is the 'obvious' choice to replace Unai Emery

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood believes Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers is the "obvious" candidate to replace Unai Emery at Arsenal.

The Gunners boss is under growing pressure at the Emirates after back-to-back draws, from winning positions at home, seriously dented their hopes of a top-four finish.

Arsenal trail Saturday's opponents, Leicester City, and Chelsea by six points ahead of their trip to the King Power Stadium.

A defeat for Emery's side would leave them trailing the Foxes by nine points after only 12 Premier League matches.

That, many feel, could be enough to see Emery out of a job ahead of the upcoming international break.

After the summer's spending, which saw over £100m spent on the squad, many were expecting Arsenal to finish in the top four this season and qualify for the Champions League.

However, the results haven't followed and Emery's tactical and personnel selections have been questioned on several occasions.

Sherwood believes that Rodgers, who he feels is "a better manager" than Emery, is the obvious choice to succeed him in north London.

James Benge: There's confidence that Vitoria may cause an upset

Speaking on Premier League Productions, Sherwood said: "They [Arsenal] might not have to go far to negotiate with another manager because he might be sitting right next to him [at the weekend].

"I think Brendan Rodgers is an obvious choice for a top, top Premier League team. Would he want to leave Leicester? I'm not saying he would.

"But if I was at the head of it at Arsenal, I like Brendan Rodgers, I think he's a better manager than Unai Emery."
