Arsenal may be interested in signing Wilfried Zaha this summer, but former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has claimed that he is not what the Gunners need.
Instead, Redknapp said he feels Arsenal "desperately need" some defenders this summer, and that is what they should prioritise in the final two weeks of the transfer window.
The former Spurs and West Ham boss was speaking on Talksport about his old club's north London rivals, with Redknapp giving his verdict on the current state of the Gunners' team.
He said: “What has happened to Arsenal? Years ago, when Arsenal wanted a player they went and got him.
“We keep talking about the kid at Celtic [Kieran Tierney], who is a good left-back, but they need central defenders, surely.
“You talk to an Arsenal fan and they’d tell you – in the back four, their two centre halves are not good enough, they’re going to lose [Laurent] Koscielny, he's got a problem and he wants out, and they’re short in midfield."
Arsenal are expected to complete the signing of Saint Etienne defender William Saliba in the coming days, although he will be loaned back to the French side for the 2019/20 season.
Meanwhile, midfielder Dani Ceballos is also set to join the Gunners on a season-long loan from Real Madrid.
But with the Gunners still keen on a move to sign Zaha from Crystal Palace, Redknapp has suggested that their priorities should lie elsewhere in the run-up to the transfer deadline, which is in 16 days on Thursday, August 8.
“They certainly don’t need any more forwards – that’s the one area they are decent in, they’ve got a couple of good front men," he said.
“They need some defenders desperately.”
