Former Titans WR Rishard Matthews announces retirement from NFL

It’s been a good while since wide receiver Rishard Matthews took the field for the Tennessee Titans, but he won’t be seeing action for any team now.

On Monday, Matthews announced his retirement from the NFL.

“It was cool being a professional football player and getting to play a kid’s game for work,” Matthews said via Instagram. “I will always be a fan of the best sport in the world but for me, that kid’s game no longer exist[s].”

Matthews’ contract with the New Orleans Saints was terminated earlier in the year as head coach Sean Payton announced on Saturday.

Matthews played professional for seven years with the Miami Dolphins, seeing time with the Titans and New York Jets afterward.

The wideout made his way out of Tennessee after his role in the offense decreased following two impressive seasons, and was never able to truly establish himself with another team upon his departure.

The 29-year-old reeled in 230 passes for 3,160 yards and 21 touchdowns on his career before officially calling it quits.
