Former Titans scout Ellis Rainsberger has passed away at 88

Former Tennessee Titans scout, Ellis Rainsberger, who spent five years with the franchise from 2000-2004, passed away on July 17 at the age of 88, the team announced on Thursday.

For the Titans, Rainsberger scouted the Southeast part of the United States in his first season with Tennessee, and then handled parts of the Midwest and East over his final four.

After playing his college ball at Kansas State, Rainsberger spent one year in the CFL as a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders before starting his coaching career.

Rainsberger had stints as a head coach with Washburn University from 1962-1964, Southern Illinois in 1966, his alma mater Kansas State from 1975-1977, and the USFL’s Pittsburgh Maulers in 1984.

He also served as an offensive coordinator at Illinois and Wisconsin, and as an assistant at Toledo, and with the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Toronto Argonauts, as well as the USFL’s Denver Gold.

Before retiring in 2007, the former Titans scout coached and scouted for NFL teams such as the Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins.
