Former Titans RB Eddie George says there are ‘no excuses’ for Marcus Mariota this year

It’s an important year for Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota, who enters the fifth and final season of his rookie deal in 2019.

Fortunately for him, general manager Jon Robinson and the team have done a fine job putting all the right pieces in place for him to prove he’s the quarterback of the future.

Between the 2019 NFL Draft and the free agency, the Titans are stacked with talent on both sides of the ball, and feature offensive line help and reliable targets for Mariota to throw to.

It’s because of reasons like these that many aren’t allowing Mariota any excuses — and you can count former Tennessee running back Eddie George as one of them.

He joined Paul Kuharksy on The Midday 180 show on Wednesday, and had  a comment on Mariota.

Another thing special about 2019 for the Titans is the sense of continuity it brings with the promotion of former tight ends coach Arthur Smith to offensive coordinator.

This should work on Mariota’s favor, who is now on his fifth offensive coordinator in five years.

It should also be noted that Mariota – who has yet to play a full season due to frequent injuries – said he added “good weight” to his 6-foot-4 frame and is currently listed at 222 pounds on team’s website.

Bulking up should allow Mariota to absorb hits better than he used to, and ultimately become less injury-prone.

We’ll get our next look at Mariota when the Titans take on the Steelers at 7:00 p.m. CT on Sunday in Nissan Stadium.
