Former Tennessee Titans linebacker Will Compton did not enjoy his time with the Washington NFL team, as he recently revealed during an episode of the “Bussin’ With the Boys” podcast.
Compton, who hosts the podcast along with Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan, said his time in Washington was “the most miserable experience of my life” (H/T Mike Hogan of Sports Illustrated).
“It was the most miserable experience of my life,” Compton said. “We all tolerated it because if we complained, they reminded us that 1,000 people out there would take our jobs in a heartbeat.”
Compton then went into further detail about what went wrong during his time with the team, which lasted five seasons.
“It’s just up in flames. In the locker room, you did the best you could as players,” Compton explained. “Washington [D.C.] is such a melting pot of media, people trying to divide and politics that go on. Upstairs always seemed like a mess, but no one ever knew factual stuff. You could just chalk it up, they could be better about leadership organizationally.”
Washington has been in the news quite a bit lately.
Not only is the team in the process of changing its controversial name, but a recent report from the Washington Post detailed rampant sexual harassment of women within the organization.
Compton addressed the latter issue, saying he felt terrible for what those women have to go through.
“You hate it for everyone involved,” Compton said. “You hate it for the women involved who have to come out and talk about this. People that are getting called out and held responsible, that’s what you want.”
In the past, Compton has been very complimentary of how the Titans, a team he spent one season with, are run. He went on to commend general manager Jon Robinson for his involvement and communication.
“Jon Robinson sits in meetings. Unless you really needed to talk about something and save face, you never saw [former Washington GM] Bruce Allen around at all. Jon’s really involved. Just the communication from the top down. It all starts at the tip top. If a team has a bad head coach or a bad culture, it’s up to the people above them to get it right.”
Compton spent the 2019 campaign with the Raiders, playing in nine games (four starts). He remains available on the free-agent market.
