Alterraun Verner to sign one-day contract and retire as Titan

Cornerback Alterraun Verner announced his retirement from the NFL in March, but there’s a certain way he wants it all to end.

The former Titan will sign a one-day contract on Wednesday with Tennessee to retire as a member of the team, per team reporter Jim Wyatt.

“I am thankful for the Tennessee Titans organization to bet on a 21 year old kid from UCLA with the 104th pick of the fourth round,” he wrote in an Instagram post last month. “You guys gave me my first shot at my dream. Had four great years which included a Pro Bowl berth!”

A 2010 draft pick, Verner played in Tennessee from 2010-2013 before going on to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, for whom he played three seasons (2014-2016). Verner spent the 2017 season — his last — with the Miami Dolphins.

Verner made 11 of his 15 career interceptions with Tennessee, including five in 2013, his lone Pro Bowl season. That year, he led the league with 22 passes defensed.
